Cell division cycle is one of the most fundamental processes for all eukaryotic cells. It is orchestrated with precision to maintain genome stability and cell identity. The transitions of cell cycle stages are controlled by kinases, phosphatases and selective protein degradation, as well as checkpoint mechanisms that monitor the completion of various tasks in each stage. We study various aspects of the mitotic cell cycle mainly in budding yeast, using a combination of genetics, biochemistry and cell imaging. In recent years, we have focused on the essential function of Cdc48 chaperone in the cell cycle and the dynamic interaction between chromatin and the nuclear envelope. We are currently developing new interest in lipid homeostasis during the cell cycle.
