DynaPro NanoStar II

faculty photo

The DynaPro NanoStar II is a cuvette-based dynamic light scattering (DLS) instrument used for the analysis of the size and size distributions of peptides, proteins, polymers, nanoparticles and emulsions. A separate, optimized static light scattering (SLS) channel offers true molar mass measurements.
The NanoStar II is among the most sensitive, robust and reliable DLS detectors available for protein and nanoparticle analysis. Applications: Size, aggregation and stability of small molecules, peptides, proteins, vesicles, nanoparticles, quantum dots and low/sub-micron colloids, Protein quality control for interaction or structural studies, Protein and polymer weight-average molecular weight, Macromolecular interactions.

MicroCal PEAQ-ITC

Facility Photo

The Gold Standard for measuring affinity and stoichiometry. The MicroCal PEAQ-ITC is a highly sensitive, low volume isothermal titration calorimeter for the label-free in solution study of biomolecular interactions. It delivers direct measurement of all binding parameters in a single experiment and can analyze weak to high affinity binders, using as little as 10µg sample. Semi-automated maintenance minimizes operator intervention and the system is upgradable to the fully automated MicroCal PEAQ-ITC Automated, making it ideal for laboratories where speed, sensitivity and the ability to accommodate higher workloads in the future are paramount.

AVIV model 400 Circular Dichroism Spectrometer

Facility Photo

AVIV model 400 Circular Dichroism Spectrometer records CD as a function of wavelength, time, temperature, pH and concentration using a double monochromator containing two UV grade prisms as dispersing elements. Right and left circularly polarized light is produced by a 50 KHz photoelastic modulator. Wavelength Range: 165 nm to 900 nm.
In biology and biophysics CD spectroscopy is for example use in studies of:
1. Secondary structure of proteins, peptides, RNA and DNA
2. Stability, folding and refolding
3. Ligand induced changes in structure and stability
4. Tertiary structure and conformational changes of proteins ( near UV CD observing contributions from phenylalanines, tyrosines and tryptophans).

Crystal Phoenix

Facility Photo

The Crystal Phoenix is the ideal protein crystallography dispenser, featuring accuracy, speed and precision to make it the perfect instrument for sitting drop, hanging drop and microbatch reactions. In less than 50 seconds it dispenses protein and screen to the small wells or hanging drop seals. The speed of dispensing the screen and protein eliminates the problem of evaporation even when dispensing as little as 100 nanoliters. Both the 96 syringe head and the nano dispenser have a large volume range. The 96 syringes are equipped with flexible needles that will not be damaged in the event of a misplaced plate. The 96 head can dispense from 100 nanoliters to 100 microliters and the nano dispenser has a range of 100 nanoliters to over 10 microliters.

MALS

Facility Photo

The DAWN HELEOS II is the premier Multi-Angle static Light Scattering (MALS) detector for absolute characterization of the molar mass and size of macromolecules and nanoparticles in solution, offering the highest sensitivity and widest range of molar mass, size and concentrations. It is most often used in conjunction with Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC-MALS) or Field-Flow Fractionation (FFF-MALS) to determine distributions of mass, size and composition independent of column calibration by reference standards.
